Nature reserve called Šúr
Šúr is a unique nature reserve (since 1952) with bog-alder forests and many protected plant and animal species. There is a protected oak and elm grove with thermophilic vegetation and plant species in the southern part, called Panónsky háj,proving to be a popular place for both botanists and zoologists alike. Primeval Šúr was inhabited by ancient people of the Neolithic period between 4,000 and and 3,000 years BC.
There is a source of alkaline sulphurous water near Šúr towards the city. Chemical analysis of these healing waters was published in 1859 by Dr. Alexander Bauer. There were sulphurous baths since the beginning of the 17th century and subsequently an institute for disabled youth.
